THE ALBUM: HEAUX TALES

When this project ( she calls it an EP but it is so well done that I call it an album) came out on January 8th, 2021; I actually didn’t pay much attention even though it made crazy buzz on Twitter.

Yes, I know of Jazmine Sullivan but she isn’t on the list of people I am actively watching out for her. This had nothing to do with her talent, she just didn’t land on my radar consistently enough for me to be plugged in.

All this changed when I saw Jazmine and H.E.R’s tiny desk performance. It was so good, I had to look for the whole album. So this is my review on an album about love, sex, and relationship that I didn’t see the goodness coming.

THE TALES: This was basically a bunch of monologues of women having candid conversations about their thoughts on relationships, sex, and self-worth. There are 6 tales from 6 women, where one talks about being “dickmatized” to another not having self-confidence and using sex as her superpower/crutch.

You get to listen to raw, unfiltered thoughts from these women which in my opinion reflects the range in which women interact with love, sex, and relationships.

THE VOICE & THE FEATURES: Let me start by stating that – JAZMINE SULLIVAN is a vocal powerhouse. She sings and it reaches into your soul. As she hits those notes, she serenades your mind. Her voice takes you on a journey to paradise and softness. In this project she featured Ari Lennox, Anderson .Paak, H.E.R and every of those banged. Their voices blended in so perfectly, felt like eating a good meal.

STORYTELLING: Her pen is so magnificent. Listening to this album felt like she looked into my diary, drew lessons and points then wrote the album. It felt so vivid and realistic that I was low key angry that I could relate so much (because it reminded me that I have done foolish things for men in the past but I digress LOL). Her gift has allowed her to effectively articulate the lives of many young black women through this album.

The album is so good and I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND IT (duh because I have good taste). My favourite songs of this album are ‘Pick Up Your Feelings’ and “Girl Like Me”.

Heaux tales is a great album, I definitely recommend.

Have you listened to heaux tales?

If yes, do you like the album? why?

    Great Read.

Well, the music industry is unique and appeal to different people in different ways. This project is one of the few projects that almost hacked into the perfection realm but lived through the moments on some tracks. The way you broke it down might inspire someone totally new to her to give her a try, and can also make her fans see you as a possible ally.

But the problem is the arrangement of the review, it looked more of a book review than music, the sonic feel wasn’t evident in the opening paragraph, and only the shadow was seen in the main body. But overall thoughts and mastery of the Album sound came out well and gave a bigger insight.

You should consider doing this often.

Review looked more like a book review than a music review? Interesting.
